Hair Benefits of Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera is a short-stemmed plant with leaves that are thick and fleshy. This plant grows and thrives in tropical climates around the world but is available for purchase in more common places than you may think. The gel inside of the plant is the most sought after but the leaves have many uses as well.

It is widely cultivated and used for medicinal and agricultural purposes. You can find it in various products such as lotions, ointments and even beverages. It is widely known for its soothing properties but this plant can also work wonders on your hair too.

Aloe Vera for Hair

It works great to detangle natural hair and can double as a great hair mask. You can find many products with the p in it but keep in mind that they may contain harsh chemicals and preservatives. Going for the real thing is always better, but if you're not able to get the actual plant no worries.

For a quick DIY detangler, combine 1 cup of distilled water, 2 teaspoons of aloe vera gel and about 4 drops of glycerin. Combine the ingredients in a dye applicator bottle or even an old conditioner bottle would do. Work the mixture into your hair and detangle as normal. Remember not to rinse it out!

To deep condition your hair with aloe vera, combine a quarter cup of coconut oil with a quarter cup of aloe vera gel in a dish. You can mix the ingredients together by hand, but the texture comes out best if you use a hand held mixer.

Apply the mixture to your hair the same way that you would any other deep conditioner, leave it in your hair for at least 10-15 minutes and then thoroughly rinse the mixture out.

You can substitute the coconut oil with olive oil but just keep in mind that the olive oil probably won't smell the greatest when mixed with the aloe vera gel. In that case you can add a few drops of your favorite essential oil in order to help your nose deal.

For treating dandruff, (that's right this gel does it too!) just take 1-cup aloe vera gel, 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar and 1 tablespoon of honey. Mix the ingredients together very well making sure that the texture is as uniform as possible. Apply the mixture all over your scalp and then rinse out thoroughly. Repeat this twice a month for best results.
