Homemade Hair Treatments
An unpleasant experience that many women and men may face throughout their life is hair loss, hair thinning and dryness. Many factors come into play such as genetics, environment and even your diet can play a role as well. Today we'll show you two homemade hair treatments that can help.
There are many products that promise to replenish your hair and return it to its full health, but some of these products can contain harsh chemicals that can irritate the scalp and perhaps even make matters worse.
Making your own mixtures at home allows you to experiment and customize a product that brings out the best in your hair health journey. Here are a couple recipes that you can whip up at home.
First up we have a green coconut mask. For this recipe you'll need:
- 1 ripe avocado
- 1/4 cup of coconut milk
- 1/4 cup of coconut oil
- Eucalyptus essential oil
- Clary sage essential oil
- 1 tablespoon of avocado oil
Place the avocado, coconut milk, avocado oil, and coconut oil in a blender along with six drops of the clary sage and 10 drops of the eucalyptus oil.
Blend these ingredients together until it has a nice uniform texture, similar to a smoothie. Place the mixture into a small bowl or hair dye applicator.
This can be used as a pre-poo treatment and it's excellent for detangling hair.
Leave this mask on your hair for about 25 minutes, gently comb through or finger detangle your hair and then thoroughly rinse your hair with lukewarm water. Use at least once a week for best results.
Next, we have a hair growth oil combo. For this recipe you'll need:
- 6 tsp of Jamaican Black Castor oil
- 5 tbsp Coconut oil (slightly warmed)
- 6 drops of Lavender essential oil
- 6 drops of Tea Tree oil
- 6 vitamin E capsules
In a bowl combine the castor oil and coconut oil together. Once the castor oil and coconut oil are combined thoroughly, empty the vitamin E capsules into the mixture followed by the lavender oil and tea tree oil.
Be sure not to add too much tea tree oil as it can be very potent, less is more in this case. Pour the hair growth oil into a dye applicator bottle using a small funnel.
Making sure that your hair is slightly damp, section off your hair and apply the oil from root tip. Massage the oil into your scalp gently and let it sit for 45 minutes to an hour under a shower cap or warm towel.
Wash the oil out of your hair with your usual shampoo. Condition and style as you please. For best results use this mixture twice a week and results should show up within one month!
