Seven Steps to Smoother Feet
Spring has sprung but is your feet ready? You don't have to break the bank with routine pedicures at the spa, which can definitely add up in cost. Making a small investment toward your foot care products can ensure achievable beauty and health for your feet. Here are seven steps that you can use to smoother feet.
1) Foot Baths
Purchasing a good foot bath is the first step in removing the dry, unsightly skin from your feet. The foot bath doesn't have to be fancy and equipped with massage jets, etc. It just needs to be big and deep enough for you to comfortably soak your feet in without feeling like your toes are cramping up.
2) Soaking
Soaking your feet in warm water with soap helps to soften dry hard skin on your feet so that it can be easily scrubbed away. Adding Epsom salt to your foot baths help to penetrate dry skin and assists in loosening up dead skin cells. Essential oils like lavender or peppermint are also recommended to add to your foot baths. Soak your feet for about 15-20 minutes.
3) Scrubbing
Use a pumice rock or a foot file and gently rub away all of the dry areas, emphasizing your heel area. Make sure to do this immediately after you have soaked your feet.
Foot scrubs that you can use with your hand are an excellent chaser to using a foot file or pumice rock. These scrubs allow you to get in between your toes, around your cuticles and can give your feet a smooth polished look overall!
4) Rinse
Rinse your feet off with clean warm water making sure to dissolve and remove the entire cleansing product that you have used. If you don't thoroughly remove the product, it can result in skin irritation and also the moisturizer won't be able to properly penetrate your skin.
5) Moisturize
Use an emollient rich moisturizer, preferable something infused with peppermint oil, which gives your feet an invigorating cooling feeling and it also prevents odour.
6) Nail Care
Your toenails are a part of your feet so you must take care of them as well. After you have soaked and moisturized your feet, make sure to give your toenails a trim while they are in their softened state.
If you suffer from nail discolouration, add some baking soda to your foot bath, it can help to clear that up.
7) Incubate
After you have gone through the routine of soaking, scrubbing and moisturizing your feet, it is important to retain moisture in order to keep them smooth. Do so by putting on a pair of cotton socks after your regimen, preferably right before bedtime.
If you tend to have a problem with keeping your feet moisturized, try using vapor rub instead of a foot cream as a solution. Just rub a thin layer onto your feet, making sure to completely cover any cracks or other problem spots that you may have.
